“Around the World in Plates”

Top Hat Productions is excited to be partnering with Heart Reach Neighborhood Ministries on a new project, once again. Sharing culture one plate at a time, is a “bridge-building-tool” that will celebrate cultural diversity and work to combat the current divisions surrounding so many of us today. The program will consist of teaching a diverse group of students the food choices of six different cultures and how each affect and borrow from another.

Remembering how each of us have spent so many times of our lives around a table sharing food, ideas and stories, so too will community cooks/chefs share stories while giving a “hands on” cooking lesson that students will then enjoy. As they gather around the table breaking bread together, Top Hat hopes that students will share some of their own similarities, and most importantly, the program is designed to encourage students to be proud of “their” particular culture.

While this is a stepping-stone project, it is our hope that it will become an annual program intended to encompass many students from many cultures, homes, and geographical areas.
